Our 2024 Environmental Partners: 1% for the Planet + Think Wild: A Wildlife Hospital and Conservation Center for Central Oregon
What is 1% for the Planet?
“1% for the Planet is a global organization that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. We inspire businesses and individuals to support Environmental Partners through membership and everyday actions. We make environmental giving easy and effective through partnership advising, impact storytelling, and third-party certification. 1% for the Planet works to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable giving, and provide accountability for environmental giving.
By contributing 1% of their annual sales, thousands of 1% for the Planet members have raised over $300 million to support approved Environmental Partners around the globe. Environmental Partners are approved based on referrals, track record, and environmental focus. Thousands of Environmental Partners worldwide are currently approved.
Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, our business members and individual members have given hundreds of millions of dollars to our approved Environmental Partners to date. Today, 1% for the Planet’s global network consists of thousands of businesses, individuals, and Environmental Partners working toward a better future for all.”
What is an “approved environmental partner”?
“Any environmental nonprofit who becomes a partner in our network must be referred by a 1% for the Planet member, or our staff. This referral is the first layer of our approval process. We then verify their necessary nonprofit registration, and confirm the organization has sound financials. We ensure the environment is the primary focus of all approved nonprofits by having them complete an application, which assesses mission, program/projects, areas of impact and other factors. A nonprofit is invited to join the network as a partner if it passes these initial checks. As a business member, you'll give directly to approved nonprofit partners of your choosing - there are local & global giving options available.”

So what does this mean for us here at the Studio? In addition to the commitment we have made to donate 1% of our annual revenue to approved environmental partners, below are a few more of the ways that we strive to be environmentally conscious in every aspect of the business:
Choosing approved local non-profits & charities to receive our 1% contributions
Creating museum-quality products that are lifetime, heirloom pieces - these pieces will be handed down through generations rather than thrown away
Allowing clients the option to choose between eco-leather & traditional leather options for albums, boxes, etc.
Eliminating packaging materials that end up in a landfill - all packaging is either recyclable or biodegradable.
All of our packaging & shipping materials are plastic-free, right down to the labels & tape!
Printing on eco or recycled papers for all of our printed marketing material - welcome packets, envelopes, business cards, etc. All marketing materials are recyclable!
Using paperless options for contracts, invoices, & client communications
Eliminating as many single-use products as possible (except where absolutely necessary for sanitary reasons, i.e. makeup application tools, etc.)
Actively integrating the principles of Leave No Trace during our outdoor & on-location photoshoots
… & more!
My team & I are all learning & growing as we work to create an ethical & sustainable business together, & none of us is a perfect example - we are in a constant process of refining our day-to-day operations as we look for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint & to be mindful of the waste that we create at the Studio. If you have any questions or feedback regarding our effort to prioritize environmentally friendly business practices, please reach out to us directly & we would be more than happy to talk with you!
